High Intensity Racing Marks Return of TORC Series to ERX; Strong Storms Postpone Sunday’s Action, Creating a Three-Day Off-Road Battle in September

Elk River, Minn. June 15, 2017Mother Nature may have cut short TORC: The Off-Road Championship Twin Cities Takedown at ERX Motor Park, but she was no match for the more than 250 volunteers who came together to welcome professional off-road racing back to Minnesota. In total, nearly 100-pro level drivers competed, and another 85 sportsman class racers made for a jam-packed day of short-course action.

After the TORC Series made its debut at ERX last summer, the facility implemented a host of changes to further enhance the racing and fan experience. The motor park now encompasses nearly 400-acres and incorporates more viewing areas, improved amenities, and nearly 200 campsites.

“We battled the weather all weekend,” said Jeremy Meyer, director of business development for ERX. “but we had a successful day on Saturday…the racing was incredible, and the feedback from the fans has been extremely positive.”

Sunday morning saw a strong line of storms move through the area, which brought with it winds topping 80mph, leaving a mess of tangled trees, race hauler awnings, and toppled bleachers. No one was hurt, but racing for the day was postponed in the interest of fan and racer safety, and has been reschedule as part of the TORC Series return to ERX in late September.

“We’ve just been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from volunteers and area businesses who came out or contacted us after the storm to help,” said ERX Marketing Manager, Taylor Carlson. “We’re so proud to be a part of the Elk River community, and we’re thankful to the hundreds of volunteers that stepped up to help us pull off an event of this size…we couldn’t do it without them.”

Tickets for Sunday’s postponed races will be honored at the rescheduled race slated for Friday, September 22. Full details on this and refunds are available on the ERX Motor Park website. Questions can also be directed to info@ERXMotorPark.com.

The crew at ERX will continue to make improvements to the facility throughout the summer months to ensure the three-days of racing in September is the best TORC Series event yet. Already part of the mix is an evening concert by Maiden Dixie. Until then, the facility will host other events including Monster Truck Madness, June 23-24; and four, Thursday night grassroots Beater-X® rounds of car, truck, ATV, and side-by-side racing.
