Chilly Weather and Persistent Rain Added to the Appeal of the Second Annual ERX Extreme 5K as Competitors Relished at the Chance to Overcome 18-Obstacles and Mother Nature

Elk River, Minn. May 21, 2019Oversized tires, sunken logs, vertical walls and muddy trenches; turns out those obstacles were just the tip of the iceberg for the 600-plus participants in this year’s ERX Extreme 5K. Mother Nature added to the challenge with frigid temps, a steady drizzle and gusty winds, making the second annual event truly extreme.

With nearly triple the number of participants from last year (619), it was apparent the challenging course woven throughout the 400-acre ERX Motor Park facility easily trumped the less than ideal weather. Participants ranged in age from 10 to 69, and a total of 48 teams participated along with individuals.

“No one seemed to mind the cold and rain,” said Extreme 5K Race Director, Morgan Mogler. “Everyone was cheering and having a great time…the weather was just another challenge to overcome.”

The participant who overcame those challenges with the best time was Micah Dorfner of Mankato, Minnesota who completed the course in just over 28-minutes, with an official time of 28:03. Leading the women across the line was Elk River’s own Hilary Gracik with a time of 30:59. The top placing team was the Muddy Buddies with an average team time of 37:50.
